On August 20, 2024, Senior Chief Petty Officer Jacob ID Moody, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He was 44 years old. Jacob was born August 9, 1980 in Temple, TX to David and Reina Moody. They lived a life of travel before settling in Grifton, NC when Jacob was 14 and was proud to call North Carolina home. From boyhood to his late teens, Jacob enjoyed anything outdoors; learning craftsmanship from his father, patience from his mother, and the artistic side of life from his brother Dave. Reina was his favorite person in this world and she held his hand until the end.
He enlisted in the United States Navy on January 5th, 2000 as an Aviation Ordnanceman, and, after a decorated career, was awaiting retirement on August 23, 2024. Jacob was selected for Chief in August of 2014, pinning on his anchors September 15th; he had found his calling. The pride he took in leading Sailors will continue to inspire the fleet for generations. He met his wife Jenn on March 14, 2019 in the Chiefs Club onboard NAS Pensacola. After their experience being part of the Pensacola Area Chief Petty Officers’ Association, Jacob was the founding father of the Virginia Beach CPOA. His love for being a Chief was only outweighed by his love for being a father. His children were his world. There was no sacrifice too big to be made for them, no obstacle unable to overcome. He and his ex-wife, mother of his children, and dear friend Clarissa took great pride in their ability to coparent while always maintaining respect and love for one another.
Jacob is survived by his wife Jenn, children Tristan (11) and Madisyn-Beth (8), parents David and Reina, brother Dave (Brittany), the best in-laws anyone could have hoped for, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
