August 7, 1943 — November 4, 2024

Smithfield

Robert “Bob” E. Snyder,

81, passed away November 4, 2024, after an extended battle with dementia.

Bob was born August 7, 1943 to the late Earl and Mildred Little Snyder in Newport News, VA.

After graduating from Warwick High School, he studied as an apprentice at Newport News Shipbuilding and began his career as a machinist at W&B Tool and Die. He eventually moved to Philip Morris in 1977, where he retired as a machinist trainer and Mechanical Service Representative after 22 years.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman, spending his time hunting, fishing and boating. The James River, and especially Burwell’s Bay, figured prominently into his life. From summers spent working as a teenager to his eventual home of 34 years, he formed many lasting memories and lifelong friendships there. He was steadfast, hard-working, could fix anything and strongly believed in “keeping it simple”.

A devoted father and grandfather, his family meant more to him than anything in the world. He found joy in mentoring and in later years could often be found cheering on at the soccer field and on the pool deck. He was infinitely proud of his children and grandchildren and made sure each one had every opportunity available to them.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Tom and twin brother Bill and his niece, Beth Snyder. He is survived by his son, Clay, of Seattle, WA; daughter, Kellie Bryant and her husband, Buddy, of Ivor; grandchildren Katelyn and Ashley Bryant; sister Sylvia Edmonds of Chase City, VA; nieces Phebe Elliott (Pat) and Christy Butterworth (Brian); nephews Michael Phelps, BJ Snyder (Kris) and John Snyder (Traci).

A celebration of life and memorial service will be held Friday, November 8, at 4:00 pm at Littles Funeral Home 1515 S Church St. Smithfield, VA.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
