Richard Linwood Harris

Richard Linwood Harris, aged 74, passed away on March 8, 2025. He was born on July 26, 1950, and had a meaningful life dedicated to his family, friends, and passions. Richard enjoyed a fulfilling career as a carpenter and builder and after retirement he loved spending time with his family, especially his sons and grandchildren.

As an avid outdoorsman, Richard cherished his time spent hunting and relished the tranquility of his farm, particularly the moments shared by the pond with his family. His love for the outdoors extended to his involvement with the Isle of Wight Hunt Club, where he loved running his beloved dogs.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Annie Alayne Hyer Harris, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. His legacy continues through his sons, Mark B. Harris and Paul B. Harris, along with daughter-in-law Kelli, who brought joy to his life. Richard’s grandchildren – Brandon Lee Harris, Hailey Marie Harris, James Presley Willams and Blake Ryan Harris – were a source of great pride and admiration for him, as was his great grandchild, Vivian Carroll Harris. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister, Betty Jo Chism.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Linwood Harris and Betty Jean Tucker Harris, as well as his grandson, Joseph Harris and his sister Nancy Bennett. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

The community is invited to join in honoring Richard's life with a visitation scheduled for March 11, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 7:00 PM, held at Little's Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Smithfield, Virginia.
