Minnie Ann Carr Crocker

June 29, 1935 — March 27, 2025

Suffolk

Minnie Ann Carr Crocker, 89, of Suffolk passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 27, 2025. She was born in Suffolk on June 29, 1935, daughter and only child of the late Harrison Mitchell Carr and Mary Gertrude Pulley Carr. She was raised in Isle of Wight County, where most of her family resided. Minnie Ann was a graduate of Windsor High School, Averett University, a junior college at that time, and Virginia Commonwealth University, formerly Richmond Polytechnic Institute.

After graduating from college and beginning her career as an elementary school teacher, she married her hometown sweetheart, James Bernard Crocker (Jimmy). Reverend Crocker was a Southern Baptist Minister, serving in various churches in Virginia for forty-five years. Minnie Ann loved her role as a minister’s wife, and she enjoyed sharing her talents for teaching Sunday School, taking on leadership roles in the Woman’s Missionary Union and playing the piano for worship services.

Minnie Ann made friends everywhere she went, and in her senior years, she became known affectionately as “Miss Minnie.” She cared deeply about her friends and family and made it a priority to stay connected with them all and pray for them regularly. She was a prayer warrior, and friends knew they could count on her for any specific prayer needs. Minnie Ann loved sending cards for all occasions to everyone she cared about. Her card ministry was important to her, and she chose a card specifically for each loved one to celebrate an occasion or lift someone’s spirit. She wrote and sent over 300 cards every year and looked forward to receiving cards and notes from friends and family as well.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra C. Perry and husband, George N. Perry of Smithfield and Mary Sue MacKenzie and husband, James D. MacKenzie of Suffolk, two grandchildren, James Collin MacKenzie (fiancée, Samantha Claudy) and Kaitlin Ann Perry McClung and husband, Dylan Shane McClung, great-granddaughter Ella Rose McClung and many dear cousins, nephews and nieces. The family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers Jackie Anderson and Cheryl Pisani for their love and dedication over many years in caring for and driving “Miss Minnie.”

A celebration of life service will be conducted 2 PM, Thursday, April 3, in Central Hill Baptist Church, 10270 Central Hill Road, Windsor, VA 23487. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 PM in Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Central Hill Baptist Church, designation to a Baptist Missions program or Church Cemetery Fund.
