Lois Jean Peck Rowell, 73, of Surry, passed away on March 5, 2023. She was born in Surry, Virginia, the daughter of the late Charlie James (Jimmie) and Evelyn Peck. Left to carry her memory are her husband and devoted partner in life of nearly 55 years, Charles R. (Ricky) Rowell and 2 cherished daughters, Tracey Rowell Caudill (Michael) and Angela Rowell Barry (Robert); 6 grandchildren who were the light of each of her days - Emma Clontz, Hannah Barry, Haley Clontz, Holden Barry, Hayes Barry and Grey Caudill; aunt Ruby Peck Johnson; sister-in-law, Ellen Rowell Martin (Tommy); 2 nieces and 1 nephew – Robin Martin Howorka, Sue Martin Bambery and David Martin; many cousins and friends of whom she considered family. Lois was a member of Surry United Methodist Church.
Lois was first and foremost a loving wife, mother and MeeMee, committing each day to ensuring all of them were cared for, loved and happy. There wasn’t anything she would not do for any of them; nor for any of her family and friends. Not one of them ever went a moment without knowing the love she felt for each of them. She was steadfast in her faith and was a true and brave warrior; hero to all of those around her throughout her life and her illness. She lived life to the fullest, never wavering from her true loves of the “5 F’s” in her life: family, friends, faith, flowers, and fish. You would often find her digging and planting in her flower beds, sitting by their fishpond, or planning the next meal of which anyone and everyone would have been welcomed to join.
While we are all saddened beyond measure by her lost physical presence, we rejoice in knowing she has been brought back together with her parents, dearest friend, Gail Drewry Brock and countless others who welcomed her home. She was a joyful, bright light to all who knew her. Whether you just met her or knew her for years, she stole a piece of your heart.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, March 8 from 6-7 pm at Little’s Funeral Home in Smithfield, Virginia. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 9 at 2pm at Little’s Funeral Home with a graveside service immediately following at The Old Brick Church Cemetery in Bacons Castle, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society in her memory.
