John Joseph “JT” Treier, 75, of Smithfield, passed away on August 31, 2022. He was the son of the late Albert Joseph Treier and Sophie Rose Ostrowski Treier. JT is survived by his daughter, Melody Sandell and her husband Ryan; son, John J. Treier Jr and his wife Bradi; grandchildren, Ty and Kayleigh Sandell and Aidan and Sophie Treier; and a sister, Janet Wright. He served proudly in the US Army, followed by and long career at NASA, where he tested air crafts in the wind tunnel. JT was a Life member of the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad where he held many positions through his 45 years of service. He was in the first class of Advanced Life Support Providers, bringing new life saving skills to our area. He loved traveling, and especially watching baseball. He would travel to Florida yearly to enjoy spring training, and also enjoyed the Norfolk Tides at every opportunity. He was an avid ODU basketball fan, where he held season tickets for the past several years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, 2 p.m. at the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, 13080 Great Spring Rd, Smithfield, VA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the squad. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P O Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431.
