It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John McDonald Robertson on October 11, 2024, at the age of 93.
John was born on November 3, 1930, in Bayonne, N.J., to John and Jessie (Nee McCombe) Robertson. He grew up in Barberton, OH before joining the US Air Force after graduation.
John was enlisted during the Korean war from 1950-54, stationed in Okinawa. He then spent many years opening and managing Montgomery Ward department stores on the west coast before becoming a schoolteacher in Sparks, Nevada for the next 30 years, where he finished out his work life. He retired to Smithfield, VA in 1991 to live near his brother, Bob, his wife Nonnie, and their children and grandchildren. He was loved by so many. He had a wicked sense of humor, and he loved every day of his life. We miss him dearly.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Jessie, his brother Robert, and his nephew Mark.
John is survived by his brother Ron, sisters-in-law Loretta (Ron) and Nonnie (Bob), and generations of nieces and nephews.
John will be laid to rest at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
Services are still being determined.
