Jane Cox Greene, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Smithfield VA on Thursday, July 7, 2022. She was born March 22, 1935 in Union County, NC, daughter of the late Stanley Moses and Kate Griffin Cox. Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Greene; brothers Donald Cox, Clinton Cox, Jimmy Cox and sisters Dot Richardson and Jean Meacham (Jane’s twin). She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Greene Jones (Steve) of Zuni, VA; son, Mark Greene of Smithfield, VA; two granddaughters, Nicole Thomson (Ergo) of Zuni, VA and Lindsay Bowles (Stewart) of Lanexa, VA; and great grandchildren, Noah Searcy, Liam Searcy, Emma Bowles and Kloe Thomson; brothers, Kenneth Cox, Bobby Cox, Marion Cox and David Cox; sisters, Carolyn Moore and Kathy Helms; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jane moved to Hampton, VA in 1963, where she and her husband raised their children until they moved to Smithfield VA in 1981. They attended Uzzell United Methodist Church in Isle of Wight County, VA. Jane retired from Riverdale Management Co in 2000. She dearly loved her family and rejoiced in being Mawmaw to her granddaughters and her great grandchildren. She thoroughly loved working in her yard and flowerbeds. Jane and Charles traveled to London, Spain, Rome, Mexico, Canada and 21 states in the US including countless trips with her twin Jean and her husband, Ted.
Family and friends will gather at Gordon’s Funeral Home, Monroe NC, on Saturday, July 16, 2022 from 12-12:45 for visitation; followed by a 1 pm graveside service at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Service arrangements are in the care of Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA and Gordon’s Funeral Service, Monroe, NC.
