Helene Rose Mele Biondi

Helene Rose Mele Biondi 81, passed away from complications of ALS at her home in Smithfield, VA on 11 February 2025.

Helene was born in New York, NY on 18 December 1943. Helene was married to Michael Vincent Biondi for 59 years. They were married on 8 January 1966 at St Helena's Church in Bronx, NY.

Helene was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Smithfield and Saint Mary's Star of the Sea Church at Fort Monroe Virginia.

Helene worked as a school administrator, chef and dog breeder. She had many hobbies and enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening and sailing. She was a member of Smithfield Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary.

Helene enjoyed cooking and teaching her children to cook. She was an amazing chef and her family loved her food! When, like clockwork, Michael would call Helene's office daily at noon, whoever answered the phone would say "Helene, Michael is on the phone, he wants to know what’s for dinner." Her son Matthew learned to cook from his mom and continues the tradition by cooking for his family. Helene believed if you love someone you cook for them, always sharing family recipes and cooking advice. 

Helene is survived by her husband of 59 years Michael Biondi of Smithfield, VA, and her children Elisabeth Biondi and spouse Neil Ford of Hampton, VA, Matthew Biondi and spouse Bethune Grindley of Winchester, VA. She is also survived by her three much loved Grandchildren: Elisabeth, Sarah, and Isaiah. 

Helene was predeceased in death by her mother Helene Rose Michura Mele, father Michael Rocco Mele, and adoptive father John Joseph Smith.
