David Matthew Nelms

David Matthew Nelms, 79, of Smithfield, passed away at his home on Monday, February 10, 2025. He was the son of the late Matt Thomas Nelms and Mary Josephine Crumpler Nelms. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Boothe Nelms; daughters, Pamela Duck (James) and Cindi Jackson; grandchildren, James Daniel Mildenberger (Sarah), Samantha Faucette, Ryan Duck and Justin Duck; great grandchildren, Callie, Cheyenne, Layla, Brayden, Hazel, Ava, Austin, Junior and Hunter; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Sandra Boothe. He was also preceded in death by three siblings, Waverly T. Nelms, Betty Ann Lang and Mary Louis Faust.  

David loved boats, cars and motorcycles, riding anything fast and chewing bubble gum. David loved his family and was always there when you needed him. He was the longtime business owner of David Nelms Plumbing and Septic Systems.  

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, 1 p.m. at Littles Funeral Home, Smithfield with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery, Godwin Blvd., Chuckatuck, VA, 23434. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 13th, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
