Bonnie Wilkes Jones, 70, of Ivor passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022. She was the daughter of the late James Lewis Wilkes and Martha Elizabeth Brown Wilkes. Bonnie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Milton Gwaltney Jones; daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Jones Howard (Brian); son, Milton “Chip” Gwaltney Jones, Jr (Dana); grandchildren, Avamay, Walker and Lainey; sisters, Ann Allan and Karen Crampsey. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Ronnie Wilkes. After graduating from Smithfield high School in 1969, Bonnie began working at Smithfield Foods. It was here where she met the love of her life, Milton. After a brief courtship, Milton and Bonnie married on June 26, 1970. The young couple enjoyed cruising in one of Millie’s hot rods or catching a movie after dining out. Millie and “Wilkes” (Milton’s nickname for Bonnie) then welcomed two beautiful children, “Liz” and “Chip”. Bonnie lived for her children, always encouraging them to follow their dreams, supporting them in all their endeavors. Bonnie only shined brighter when her three grandchildren were born. Walker, Lainey and Avamay were the best medication ever prescribed to Bonnie. She lit up when these three little ones walked through the door. Throughout her life, she remained cheerful, flashing a big, beautiful smile, complimented by her big brown eyes. Bonnie loved music and could be found in the kitchen always experimenting with a new recipe or making sweet gifts for her grandchildren. Bonnie was a faithful servant of the Lord, always putting her trust in Him no matter the circumstances. Bonnie was a faithful member in heart of Community Baptist Church in Surry, Va. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, 2 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Surry, VA. Flowers can be sent to Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA.
