Baxter Burnett Davis

Battery Park: Baxter Burnett Davis passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 10 after a short battle with cancer. He was born February 14, 1952 in Elizabethton, TN and was the son of the late Baxter K. and Novella Davis. He was a welder, working at Newport News Shipbuilding and later at Smithfield Foods, where he retired from in 2009. He was also the proprietor of Davis Welding. He enjoyed beaches and boating and was happiest being out on the water and spending time with his family and friends. His Grandsons, Bradley and Caiden, were the sunshine of his life and meant the world to him. He loved to watch them after school and any other times he was needed. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Pattie H. Davis, his son Baxter Wayne Davis, (Robin), two grandsons, Bradley and Caiden Davis all of Smithfield, two sisters, Dinah Stevenson (Jerry) of Windsor, VA and Marjorie McLeod (Pete), of Rescue, VA., two uncles, Parks Davis, (Mary) and Dimpsey Davis (Phyllis), a host of nieces and nephews, as well as extended family, Johnie and Joyce Netherland, Bill and Phyllis Ponton, and Pat and Diane McLaughlin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was also preceded in death by his brother, Sammy Davis.   The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday March 12 at Little’s Funeral Home, 1515 S. Church Street, Smithfield, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Isle of Wight Chapter of the American Cancer Society or to Isle of Wight Academy, PO Box 105, Isle of Wight, VA 23397.
